The DPW Director reviewed his budget with the Committee and answered questions. He discussed the reorganization of the DPW.

Engineering Division, Highway Division, Equipment Repair, Buildings and Grounds and Garage Division budgets were reviewed and discussed.

Items of note:
• The Foreman's vehicle is a heavy duty truck used for many jobs.
• NSTAR will be working on Salisbury Street and will install some length of sidewalks which would reduce the town's cost of the sidewalk construction.
• Chapter 90 funds can also be used in sidewalk construction.
• The vacuum pump truck is needed for maintenance of the 26 pumping stations in town.
• The cost of snow removal materials has gone up and it is hard to budget not knowing what the winter weather will be.
• Some building repairs are needed at the Adams Road garage.
• The cost of asphalt has also gone up.

The Committee would like a budget page for Chapter 90 projects.

Rick reported that the construction cost bids for the Public Safety Building were opened and the low bid was $8,993,000.00, which was roughly $3,000,000.00 under budget.

A motion by Rick 2nd by Jim to accept the minutes of March 25, 2009 as amended were voted unanimously (abstained Paul).

The meeting adjourned at 9:17.

Respectfully Submitted,
Marilynn Foley, Secretary
